Cape Reinga and 90 Mile Beach

I had a great day yesterday. i went on a bus trip up to Cape Reinga, which also included driving along 90 Mile Beach

the day started quite early again, and we soon stopped at a little rainforest reserve to go and look at some of the Kauri trees, which are extremely impressive

after that we made out way further north up to and then along the 90 Mile Beach (actually only 64 miles long aparently). it was very low tide so the driver took us to look for fresh oysters which are apparantly accessable at that time but we didn't find any.

after the beach we went up a little stream into the sand dunes to do some sandboadding. this was fantastic fun but unfortunately the walk up to the top of the dune was an absolute killer, so i only did it once
i made a video of somebody coming down but I cant get it to post

after that we went to a very pretty little bay for a while to sit on the beach and swim in the sea

After that we went up to Cape Reinga, which was yet another beautiful place on a day of beautiful places. the lighthouse was at the end of the short walk down to what is the Northernmost point of the North Island of New Zealand
On the way back to Paihia we stopped for some 'fush and chops' which were great.
yesterday was certainly the most active day in NZ so far, and probably the most varied and beautiful in it's different places of my whole trip so far

  1. was it 'awesome adventures' the trip sounds exactly the same as mine, I remember 'fush and chups' sat on a wall looking over a harbour. I however wimped out of sandboarding because I was afraid of breaking my arm - I am very impressed that you gave it a go. Have a good trip back to auckland, keep in touch. Did you go out in paihia with people from the bus? did you get to go and see the dolphins?
